The Potential for Circuit Design Innovation is Being Extended Through Rogers DiClad 880
A new high-performance circuit material called DiClad 880 laminates is being introduced. These laminates are characterized by an exceptionally low achieved dielectric constant of just 2.17. Their composition of woven fiberglass reinforced with PTFE is allowing a dissipation factor to be realized of only 0.0009 when measured at 10GHz. As a result, concerns about signal loss are being mitigated even in designs featuring high component density.
Through their formulation, DiClad 880 laminates are providing dielectric stability from -10°C to 140°C as well as a broad flat frequency response profile. Design work is being simplified as a result. Wider trace dimensions are being supported within tight spatial constraints, thus facilitating robust current carrying capability. Exceptional mechanical ruggedness is being imparted to endure stresses experienced during manufacturing and throughout decades of use in demanding service environments.
In one application, the material's low dielectric properties have been leveraged by a customer for a commercial phased array base station. 18 SMT components were accommodated by engineers on compact 60x60mm boards utilizing 5 mil clearance, a density previously attainable only using FR4. Extensive evaluations have demonstrated the reliability requirements for outdoor deployment are being fulfilled.
Production of DiClad 880 laminates is being handled within our ISO9001 certified facility, enabling both rapid prototype turnaround and large volume manufacturing capacity. Standard lead times of 8 weeks are being offered.
Readers are being encouraged to explore how DiClad 880's characteristics might elevate their microwave and 5G circuit concepts. Samples are being provided and design consultation services undertaken, thereby helping new innovations in fields such as radar and antennas to be conceptualized and advanced. The laminate is being presented as a means to imagine beyond the boundaries of conventional design.
